Happy New
Year!!
CATS Las Vegas Chapter wishes you a VERY happy and
prosperous new year! Let’s make 2000 the
“Year of Tax Reform!!” Thanks to all of
you that assisted in this effort during the past
year! Very Well Done!!!
Campaign
Kick-off
In last month’s issue I mentioned CATS'
latest campaign utilizing the Dan Pilla video, "The
National Retail Sales Tax". At that time I asked that
you order your copy of the Tax Freedom Kit by calling
the CATS National Office at 1-800-767-7577. If you
have received your Tax Freedom Kit you have probably
watched the video and you might already be showing it
to your friends, as outlined as a vital part of the
campaign. If so, I commend you! You are definitely
doing your part to get rid of the abusive income tax
and the intrusive IRS.
If you haven't ordered your Tax Freedom Kit I urge
you to do so immediately. The Pilla video is a "must
see" for anyone interested in learning more about the
reasons behind the push to replace the current tax
system with a simple, fair national retail sales tax.
Mr. Pilla is a nationally renowned tax consultant,
experienced in tax litigation for the past 25 years.
Many experts say that Mr. Pilla knows more about the
income tax code than the IRS itself. As an added
incentive to get your Tax Freedom Kit, Dan Pilla has
agreed to give you a FREE tax consultation simply for
ordering. Order yours today by calling CATS at
1-800-767-7577 and asking for the "Dan Pilla Tax
Freedom Kit."
Seven Step Success
Stories
In a recent survey done by CATS it was discovered
that a high percentage of people are unaware of the
Seven Step Program outlined in the Citizen Action
Pack which all new members receive upon joining CATS.
If you are a member of CATS please take out your pack
and review the Seven Step Program at this time. Then
turn to the last page in the booklet:
“Checklist. The CATS Seven Step Program.”
Follow the instructions on the checklist, especially
the one about making 12 blank copies of the checklist
so that you can fill one out every month and send to
your local chapter director (that’s me!).
We could significantly increase our impact on
Congress and the public if we just had our current
members doing a few of the Seven Steps on a monthly
basis.
To mount an awareness campaign we are looking for
letters to the editor from CATS members and any
successes members have had doing any of the Seven
Steps. What we need is for you to send copies of any
letters to the editor on tax reform you have had
published and write-up any successes you have
experienced doing the Seven Step Program. Please send
them to:

Ten years ago a few concerned citizens decided to
do something about the insane tax system in this
great country of ours. Through direct observation of
various tax systems which have been used around the
world, it was determined that a tax system based on
consumption (sales taxes) has proven to be the least
destructive form of taxation and one that is not as
open to abuse as other forms of taxation. These
individuals formed a group known as Citizens for an
Alternative Tax System, aka CATS. This grassroots
group grew in size and influence over the years and
is still considered by many to be the group to look
to for answers when questions about tax reform come
up. It is a direct result of CATS' efforts that the
debate over tax reform is taking place at all.
Since that time 10 years ago, other groups have
been formed around the idea of replacing the unfair
income tax and IRS with a fair national sales tax.
For your convenience I have listed two of the most
prominent of these organizations below. I urge you to
call, write or email these groups and ask them to
send you some information. Along with CATS, I am also
a member of both of these fine organizations.

NRSTA visits Nevada
Rep.
On Monday December 6, 1999 National Retail Sales
Tax Alliance Vice President, Jack Walsh, visited the
Washington, D.C. office of Nevada Congressman Jim
Gibbons. Mr. Walsh left written material on H.R.2001
and H.R.2525; the two national sales tax bills before
Congress.
NRSTA will follow up this initial visit with a
phone call to Congressman Gibbons’ tax aide for
an appointment to discuss having the Congressman
become a cosponsor on both bills. Your letters to
Rep. Gibbons will help get him on board. You can send
NRSTA and CATS LV Chapter a copy of your letter and
the response you receive from Rep. Gibbons and we
will follow up with the Congressman.
Influence your
Members of Congress
The fine folks at Americans for Fair Taxation
(AFT) have devised a useful numerical scale for
rating the different ways to influence your public
servants, which I include here for your future
reference:
On a scale of 1-10, the best ways to
influence
your representatives in Congress.
10 - Make a personal appointment to see
them in
their office, either in Washington, D.C or here
in
Nevada.
8 - Write a polite, handwritten, one-page
letter.
(Please make certain it is legible and stick to
one
issue)
6 - Write a polite, typewritten, one-page
letter.
5 - Send a polite, hand or typewritten,
one-page
fax.
3 - Call representative’s office
and talk to their
staff. (add 4 points if you talk to your
representative)
2 - Send a polite, one-page email.
1 - Send a preprinted postcard.
As an aside, I have personally done all of the
above and I can attest that these actions get
results. I would suggest that you do as many of the
above actions as possible on a regular basis. The top
two actions above are also the first two steps in the
Seven Step Program mentioned earlier in this
newsletter.
Newsletter is alive and
well!
