Open Letter to Nevada
Members of Congress

Dear Senator Reid, Senator Ensign, Congresswoman Berkley, and Congressman Gibbons:

We, the members of the Las Vegas Chapter of Citizens for an Alternative Tax System, do hereby request that you sign the VOTRTM Pledge.

The VOTRTM Pledge is a promise by an elected official or a candidate for public office to proactively work toward implementation of fundamental tax reform in the year 2005 or sooner.

NOTE: This VOTRTM Pledge sample is for public review only. Any elected official or candidate who wishes to sign this pledge should contact the VOTRTM Director, who will arrange access to an authorized VOTRTM Pledge, featuring a sequential control number.

VOTRTM PLEDGE
(SAMPLE ONLY)

I recognize and acknowledge America's need for fundamental tax reform defined as:

* Simple - A brief or paperless compliance system
Individuals and business owners should not be required to expend exorbitant resources for the sake of tax compliance.

* Fair - Applies a single rate to all Americans
All taxpayers should pay their fair share and not be subject to hidden taxes. Low-income earners should not bear a disproportionate burden.

* Stable - Requires a super majority of Congress to raise tax rates or increase the base
Average Americans should be able to understand the tax code and rely on a stable, predictable rate.

* Economically sound - Promotes job creation, productivity, savings, and investment
Taxes should simply fund the government, not provide social engineering tools nor punish those things that create economic value.

* Replaces the current system - Eliminates the current system or provides for repeal of the 16th Amendment
Fundamental tax reform should not be added to the existing tax code and should not provide for any form of double taxation of both income and spending.

Therefore, in order to faithfully represent my constituency, I pledge to proactively advocate fundamental tax reform and pursue its implementation in the year 2005 or sooner.

VOTRTM Petition Drive

All across the United States people are signing the VOTRTM Petition. Have you signed the VOTRTM Petition? Our goal is to have at least 500,000 petitions signed by the November elections.

It is vital that you sign the VOTRTM Petition right now!

The VOTRTM Petition is a request by you to your elected officials and candidates for public office to proactively work toward implementation of fundamental tax reform in the year 2005 or sooner.

Here is what the petition states:

VOTRTM Petition

I hereby petition my elected officials to represent my interests by immediately seeking fundamental tax reform, defined as:

* Simple - A brief or paperless compliance system

* Fair - Applies a single rate to all Americans

* Stable - Requires a super majority of Congress to change terms or rates

* Economically sound - Promotes job creation, productivity, savings, and investment

* Replaces the current system - Eliminates the current system or provides for repeal of the 16th Amendment

I also hereby commit my vote in favor of candidates for public office who sign the VOTRTM Pledge and actively advocate and pursue the implementation of fundamental tax reform in the year 2005 or sooner.

To sign the VOTRTM Petition simply go to the VOTRTM Web Site at: www.votr.org

If you do not have access to the Internet call me at 702-454-5736 or Neal White, toll-free at 1-877-937-6778, if you need a hard-copy of the petition.

Or, if you live in the Las Vegas area and you would like to sign the petition in person this weekend, let me tell you how you can do just that.

Charles Schneider, one of our most active local CATS members, came up with the idea to have a VOTRTM Petition Booth at the upcoming Las Vegas Gun Show.

This show is attended by thousands of citizens and will be a great way to get a large number of petitions signed. The booth will also serve an educational function, since we will be passing out informational flyers about the national retail sales tax to everyone who is interested.

So, if you would like to sign the petition, or simply get some free information, please come to the Las Vegas Gun Show this weekend and look for our booth.

Event: Las Vegas Gun Show
Location: Cashman Center
Address: 850 Las Vegas Blvd., North
Dates: Saturday, July 6 and Sunday, July 7

We hope to see all of you there. CATS Las Vegas Chapter volunteers will be on hand to assist you with the petition, answer your questions, and provide you with free informational flyers.

See you there… and bring a friend!!

"We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle."

VOTRTM Campaign

As you can probably tell from the articles in this month's newsletter the VOTRTM Campaign is one of the most important crusades we have undertaken in our battle to achieve fundamental tax reform.

When signing the VOTRTM Petition encourage your spouse and voting age children to sign also. Send the web site www.votr.org to your e-mail list. Ask friends and relatives to sign.

VOTR Campaign Hard Copy Petitions are available now for those citizens without Internet access.

Call VOTR USA to volunteer to help. Phone: 1-(866) VOTR-USA (1-(866) 868-7872)

Thanks for your help. I would also ask that you call your Congressman and request that he or she sign the VOTR Pledge online.

Thank you!

This newsletter would not be in your hands, were it not for the "small group of thoughtful, committed citizens". Due to the rising costs of postage and printing, if those of you who contribute financially were not there, I could not afford to send you this newsletter.

My sincere appreciation goes out to every one of you who are making regular or periodic contributions to keep the Las Vegas Chapter operating. Donations of ANY size are needed and wanted. ALL assistance is greatly appreciated. Please make your check or Money Order payable to: "D.P. Bracken" and mail to:
