Renewal Letter
The CATS National Office will be sending out a ‘membership renewal’ letter which most of you will receive in the mail in the near future. Here are some select quotes from the letter; and I have also included a ‘renewal form’ (call 1-800-767-7577 for form) with this newsletter so that you may take advantage of it immediately.
“You have the opportunity to make an important difference right now by renewing your membership in CATS. You do this by simply filling out and returning the enclosed renewal form with your contribution.”
“Not too long from now, we will be electing a new President, one third of the Senate and the entire House of Representatives. Our current Election 2000 Campaign will raise the visibility of the retail sales tax to all three groups! Your contributions go directly to creating the educational materials (including postage) that will impact those seeking re-election. As we are communicating to the presidential candidates with our post card campaign, we will also be organizing educational campaigns in specific districts along with an outreach program to an even broader base of new people to help expand the network. With sufficient resources we can take advantage of the opportunities we create! This is pay-off time for all our hard work! This is not the moment to let up.”
“So, please take this opportunity to renew your commitment to your fellow citizens and CATS by sending in the enclosed renewal form. You can make a one time renewal donation or take the next step and enroll in the Monthly Membership Club. Going the MMC route affords you the opportunity to spread your contribution over a 12 month period and assures CATS of a stable financial base upon which to plan and operate. In addition to receiving your regular CATS membership benefits, as a MMC member you will also receive, free of charge, all of the latest videos and publications as they become available.”
“For a renewal of $100 or more we will send you a copy of THE NEW CATS VIDEO documenting the activities of TAX WEEK 2000. For renewals of $250 or more you will receive in addition, an autographed copy of the book, The Federal Subsidy Beast, by Brian Finegan.”
“Whether it is an annual renewal or MMC membership, please do whatever you can right now, so we can continue the fight to abolish the income tax code, eliminate the IRS and provide a sound footing for our continuted national economic growth. Thanks for everything you’ve done. I know that we can depend on you to do whatever you can to help.”
Sincerely,
Glenn Wahlquist

The Slave Tax
"Alan Keyes, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, says the income tax is a slave tax and that Americans are slaves. He is correct. A slave is a person who does not own his own labor. After paying the income tax, successful Americans retain no more of the income they produce than 19th century slaves - and considerably less than medieval serfs. The maximum that could be extracted from a medieval serf was one-third - an amount extracted today by the combination of the payroll tax and the bottom rung of the federal income tax. Add in state sales and income taxes, and it is apparent Americans are not a proud, free people. Our Founding Fathers knew an income tax was a slave tax, and they forbade it. It required a constitutional amendment - the 16th - to make us slaves."

Letter to Grandpa
Here is a piece written by our own Las Vegas CATS member Marvin Wear. This is written from the viewpoint of his grandaughter, who is 8 years old now, in the year 2035.
Hi Grandpa,
Well, it's April 15, 2035, and I'm 43 years old tomorrow!
I'm sitting here at home with my husband and he's getting all the tax stuff together as it has to be in the mail tonight.
We're thinking about having another baby, but I don't think we can afford it as we're taxed so much that sometimes I want to just give up. All they do is give out money to other countries. To tell the truth, I think they're better off than we are.
My brother is so busy working three jobs I don't think he will ever have time to get married. In fact he was able to get my husband a second job, so with that and my working, we're doing pretty good.
I'm really not complaining, we're better off than the millions that are living on the streets. They just can't seem to make it.
Grandpa, we're taxed so much - we have to give the government 85 cents out of every dollar - will it ever end?
I heard on talk radio the other day that some guy is trying to abolish the IRS and go to a National Retail Sales Tax. Didn't you try to start something like that a long time ago? Golly, it seems like such a great idea.
I remember you used to say, "WE NEED TO STOP PUNISHING SUCCESS IN THIS COUNTRY AND START REWARDING SAVINGS AND HARD WORK!" I miss you Grandpa.
Love,
Jessica
Terminate the Tax Code
An open letter to Senator Harry Reid and Senator Richard Bryan:
Dear Senators Reid & Bryan,
Recently, H.R. 4199 "The Date Certain Tax Code Replacement Act" passed through the U.S. House of Representatives and has moved to the U.S. Senate as S 2450.
What is being done about S 2450, "The Date Certain Tax Code Replacement Act"? It moved through the House under the direction of Rep. Largent and I would like to see it pass in the Senate. What is the status? What can we do as citizens of this great country to see that this bill gets the attention it deserves?
Please help the people of America by getting the necessary support for this legislation in the Senate.
Thank you,
The members of the Las Vegas Chapter of Citizens for an Alternative Tax System (CATS)
